LENCO

Lenco, Dublin

One of the key design considerations from the start of this 330 sqm, 5 bed project was to preserve the character of the area as well as the views out to Dublin bay - from both from client’s home, as well as views “through” the project from Dublin Road.

By breaking the building up into several blocks of varying heights connected by link pieces, it makes the approach along Dublin Road a much more nuanced experience. The buildings block-and-link design de-solidifies the proposal. Framing views through the link pieces, and creating void space above each link piece makes the entire scheme more transparent and less obstructing to the views out to Dublin Bay.

The “transparent zone” through the link piece which constitutes the entrance of the house is an import-ant moment as you approach the building. It highlights a fundamental part of the design, which is in the framing of these views. In this sense, the building becomes secondary and Dublin Bay become the primary object of interest in the project.
